Oak Flooring for installation over UFH is always a challenge because of the natural qualities of oak flooring being effected by the direct ambient heat output from the UFH system just below, especially when extra durability is required with a thicker oak floor board.

It's pretty much understood and accepted that Solid Oak Flooring isn't ideal for use above UFH because it doesn't provide the stability required, and that Engineered Oak Flooring is the recommended product.

Usually, most UFH manufacturers recommend a maximum floor thickness of 15mm to enable the UFH system to work efficiently due to the lower thermal resistance of that thickness of oak flooring, so when people want to use a thicker oak floor board then this can cause some problems, both with regards the efficiency and also the stability of construction of the thicker oak flooring.

Oak Floors Online have developed a 22mm thick ThruFlow engineered oak floor board that has a drilled Birch plywood underside to allow heat to travel through it more easily; thus making it more efficient than the standard 21mm engineered oak flooring.

The usual maintenance rules still apply, like the need to monitor and control temperature and Relative Humidity that surround the oak flooring, but by using the 22mm ThruFlow oak flooring you can gain the extra durability of having a full 6mm wear layer of oak instead of the maximum 4mm that's on the 15mm oak flooring.
